Teaching Arts education that is culturally responsive not only fosters relationships but promotes high student engagement. By embracing the culture (and worlds) of students, meaningful connections are made that help students to feel that they have ownership of their learning, and encourage them to create. This type of instruction also leads to powerful conversations on race, power and justice.
This workshop promotes meeting students where they are through culturally responsive teaching preparing teachers to thrive in urban environments.Participants will be able to analyze their current approach to instructional delve into creating a culture of learning that promotes differentiated instruction meeting the needs of socioeconomic and culturally diverse students.
In a time when students face challenges with bullying, social media and even family life, social emotional learning is more important than ever. As a tool for making meaning and communication, the arts can have a profound impact on the social emotional health of our students. In This training, participants will learn about the social emotional learning competencies and strategies on how to integrate this model using the arts as a framework.

This course will give you techniques and tools to ensure you are helping to feed that inner artist. What resources are around to help hone in on and develop your child’s special interests, talents, and skills? This course will help to answer that and a host of other questions that will help communicate with and fully support your child’s artistry.

In LTYC’s Dance Program, students study basic dance techniques, including modern, jazz, ballet, and hip hop. Students will also learn choreography given to them by the instructor and at other times will explore creating their own movement by using elements covered in class. Studying dance helps students to be aware of their bodies and the space around them.

In LTYC’s Music Program, students study various forms of music while learning fundamental skills that foster development musically. Topics might include music appreciation, rhythm, timing, coordination, pitch and tone. Program could also include an instrumental or choir component.

In LTYC’s Theatre Program, students study beginning acting techniques like mime, pantomime, and improvisation, learn processes of creating and critiquing theatre, work with serious and comedic texts, and express ideas in the creation of short scenes, monologues and plays. Topics might include characterization, theatre history, movement, voice, and production.

In LTYC’s Visual Arts Program, students study the art and cultures of different times and places, learn processes of visual problem solving and critiquing artwork, work with traditional and non-traditional art media, and express ideas in the production of their own art. Topics could include painting, sculpture, drawing, design, and production.

Students receive fundamental training in navigating technology and how to apply it in real world experiences. Topics include keyboarding, learning various software platforms, and introduction to coding. Students work collaboratively on projects that connect ideas in technology and make curricular connections to content being taught in other classes.

Students create, expand and use their voices as writers through a variety of genres, such as fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Students will be able to express themselves through written works, workshops, and performances to help strengthen their writing and their confidence in their work.

The LTYC SmARTs Business course is a dynamic program that offers engaging opportunities in art and business education. In this eclectic program, learners explore the beauty of building revenue through the arts. All work created stems from personal meaning, experiences, and prevalent social, political, economic, and cultural events. LTYC’s program curriculum is designed to showcase diverse contemporary artists that represent an array of art forms. The goal of each SmARTs session is to unpack the strategies of successful master artists from an art and business perspective. All learners have the opportunity to use their own aesthetic and art form to build a thriving business through the arts.
Incorporating The A for the arts only helps to strengthen STEAM concepts and make connections between the creative processes that are needed in the fields of math, engineering, technology and science. Fine tuning technical skills does not mean we should negate or lose sight of creativity. LTYC wants to emphasize the A in STEAM in its instruction, realizing that incorporating the creative elements makes the other components more relatable and easy to understand.
