Teaching Arts education that is culturally responsive not only fosters relationships but promotes high student engagement. By embracing the culture (and worlds) of students, meaningful connections are made that help students to feel that they have ownership of their learning, and encourage them to create. This type of instruction also leads to powerful conversations on race, power and justice.
This workshop promotes meeting students where they are through culturally responsive teaching preparing teachers to thrive in urban environments.Participants will be able to analyze their current approach to instructional delve into creating a culture of learning that promotes differentiated instruction meeting the needs of socioeconomic and culturally diverse students.
In a time when students face challenges with bullying, social media and even family life, social emotional learning is more important than ever. As a tool for making meaning and communication, the arts can have a profound impact on the social emotional health of our students. In This training, participants will learn about the social emotional learning competencies and strategies on how to integrate this model using the arts as a framework.
Incorporating The A for the arts only helps to strengthen STEAM concepts and make connections between the creative processes that are needed in the fields of math, engineering, technology and science. Fine tuning technical skills does not mean we should negate or lose sight of creativity. LTYC wants to emphasize the A in STEAM in its instruction, realizing that incorporating the creative elements makes the other components more relatable and easy to understand.
